The Real World

So, this summer, as in summers past, I have a full-time job. However, I have come to the conclusion that not many people actually work. "Oh I've interrupted happy time...Now I know you'd just love to sit there and continue not being slim, but we have to work a little today okay." I mean take my job for instance. I am working for the U.S. government which means that I spend about half of my day checking email and reading things on the internet (like 90 percent of the people who work here too).
I've decided that only if you work a manual-labor type of job (grounds, anything in the service industry) you pretty much don't really "work." True, you make money for your time, but you don't really do anything. You feel obligated to show up because you get a paycheck every two weeks. There's nothing wrong with that though. "I'm a big fan of money. I like it, I use it, I have a little. I keep it in a jar on top of my refrigerator. I'd like to put more in that jar. That's where you come in."
So, in about four weeks I'll be headed back to Logan with my oh-so-hard-earned money (what's left of it after paying rent and tuition). I only have one more semester and then it's the "real world" for me. I just hope I find a job that is interesting.

  1. I think you're right about most of us not actually working. Is sitting at a computer typing stuff really 'working'? Doubt it. Well, hang in there...you'll be back in Aggieland soon! :)
