It's Christmas Time and Time for a Carol

The other night I was eating dinner with some RS ladies and one of the wives said that Christmas really starts for her when she hears a MoTown Christmas song. As I thought about that, I realized that Christmas really starts for me when I hear Nat "King" Cole, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, or the Carpenters. These albums were always played at our house growing up and we continue to enjoy them now in our own home. Christmas music just makes the start of winter bearable with the darkness and cold temperatures.

I love Christmas music for a few reasons:

1) We only get to legitimately listen to it for about 40 days out of the year.
2) I love the messages that it brings, for example:

From Hark! The Herald Angels Sing:
Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace! / Hail the Son of Righteousness! / Light and life to all He brings / Ris'n with healing in His wings / Mild He lays His glory by / Born that man no more may die / Born to raise the sons of earth / Born to give them second birth / Hark! The herald angels sing / Glory to the newborn King!
What great lyrics, to know that Our Savior came to earth to give us second birth, so we can return to live with Him and our Heavenly Father!
3) It gets me in the mood for giving

I hope others get to enjoy their favorite holiday tunes this season! To you and yours, Merry Christmas!
